Attorney Ronald R. Gilbert
Attorney Ronald R. Gilbert began representing victims of
aquatic injuries and their families in 1981. Since then he has worked on behalf of more
than 100 people with aquatic injuries in 35 states.
People who have lost loved ones to aquatic accidents
know Ron Gilbert as a lawyer who cares. He has worked hard as an advocate for improved
aquatic safety and to prevent other injuries. He handles cases personally, providing
support through an extremely difficult time of life.
Mr. Gilbert believes that the swimming pool industry
and other should accept a greater role in preventing aquatic injuries and drownings.
Through litigation, legislation and public awareness, he has pressed the industry to make
changes that can prevent accidents and save lives.
In addition to his work as a trial attorney, Ron
Gilbert is active in efforts to promote aquatic safety and prevent drownings through
education and legislation. He's the chairman and founder of the Foundation for Aquatic
Injury Prevention and the Foundation for Spinal Cord Injury Prevention and a member of the
Drowning Prevention Foundation. He also has worked with the Consumer Product Safety
Commission on their National Swimming Pool Safety Committee, and as a member of the Orange
County Trauma Society and the Crippled Children's Group.
Mr. Gilbert is a member of the American Bar
Association, the State Bar of Michigan, and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.
Mr. Gilbert has served as a member of the Board of
Directors of the NSCIA and has spoken at numerous spinal cord and head injury and
prevention meetings nationwide. He also has been chosen as a member of Who's Who in
American Law as well as Who's Who in America.

Medical Counsel
Steven E. Newman, M.D.
Neurology
Dr. Steve, who has more than 20 years of experience in neurology and
neurorehabilitation, devotes part of his practice to working with severely injured spinal
cord and head injury victims. He is well acquainted with post injury problems and is
willing to provide counsel to SCI victims and their families.
Dr. Steve has served as a medical consultant in
neurology, neurorehabilitation, and electroencephalography for medical facilities such as
the University of Michigan Medical Center, St. Mary's Hospital, the Oakland County Medical
Care Facility and the Detroit Industrial Clinics. He is currently a medical consultant to
the Detroit Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, William Beaumont Hospital,
and DMC Grace/Sinai Hospitals of Detroit. Dr. Steve also is a medical adviser to the
Social Security Administration, Office of Hearings and Appeals and to the U.S. Department
of Labor, Office of Workers Compensation.
In addition to his medical practice, Dr. Steve holds
teaching positions at several medical facilities including: the Department of Internal
Medicine (Neurology) William Beaumont Hospital, and the Department of Internal Medicine
(Neurology Section) DMC/Grace/Sinai Hospital. He has written numerous articles on
neurological topics that have been published in leading medical publications and and he
has presented many papers at professional conferences.
Dr. Steve has been certified by the National Board
of Medical Examiners, the American Board of Qualification of Electroencephalography, Inc.,
the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, the American Board of Forensic Examiners
and the American Board of Forensic Medicine. He's currently a member of the following
organizations: the American Academy of Clinical Neurophysiology, American Academy of
Neurology, American Association of Electromyography and Electrodiagnoses, the American
College of Legal Medicine, American College of Forensic Examiners in Medicine, American
Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, the Association of Military
Surgeons of the United States, Michigan Neurological Association, Michigan Spinal
Cord/Traumatic Brain Injury Advisory Committee of the Community Public Health Agency for
the State of Michigan, the World Neurological Association and the National Association of
Disability Evaluating Physicians. He was recently elected President of the Oakland County
Medical Society for the term begining in 2000.
Dr. Steve received his undergraduate degree from
Albion College in Albion Michigan and his M.D. degree from the University of Michigan
Medical School in Ann Arbor Michigan. He also has done post graduate work as a research
associate in the Experimental Neurology Laboratory at the National Institute of
Neurological and Communicative Disorders and Stroke which is part of the National
Institutes of Health in Bethesda Maryland.

Paul A. Hathaway, LIC, CSSC
Paul A. Hathaway is the President of Michigan-based
Hathaway and Associates, Inc., a financial service firm founded in 1978 that has been
providing litigation and settlement consulting to lawyers, insurance companies and claims
professionals since 1981. Mr. Hathaway is a graduate of the University of Michigan and a
23-year veteran of the financial services industry.
